Bemz – Wake Up Your Tired Old Sofa

Wish List-2

Mmmmm!!! so your favourite Ikea sofa / chair is looking a bit……. well tired.
Structurally it is sound, but the upholstery is a bit worn
What do you do???   Bin it, let the Salvation Army come and take it???

or

You have found a sofa / chair in Ikea that you like, but you are not so keen on their current range of covers.

Sound familiar?  Then read on!!

Swedish company Bemz can help.

They have been fixing these exact problems since 2005. and it’s all thanks to owner Lesley Pennington.
The inspiration for Bemz came to Lesley after buying an Ikea Sofa for her Swedish summer-house. She came up with the idea of supplying custom-made slip covers for Ikea’s range giving people the opportunity to personalise their space.
10 years later Bemz is going strong, selling their products in over 35 countries.

The process is simple, there is no need for you to measure. Bemz already have all the measurements for the entire Ikea range (plus some discontinued lines).

You simply choose a fabric and tell them which Ikea piece you want to cover and they do the rest.

Easy peasey, lemon squeezy!!!!!

The range of fabrics is pretty extensive, with Bemz own range of plain dyed cotton to designer fabrics from Christian Lacroix, Designers Guild and Marimekko.

Their website is full of information about choosing fabrics types to suit your needs.

The website also does mock ups of what your chosen fabric on your chosen piece of furniture will look like (oh the hours of playing around with designing a sofa). These guys have thought of everything!!!

And of all that wasn’t enough they also custom make of the below:

  • Curtains
  • Chair Covers
  • Footstool Covers
  • Cushion Covers
  • Bed Skirts
  • Daybed Covers
  • Mattress Covers
  • Bed Frame Covers
  • Headboard Covers
  • Beanbag Covers

So before you off load that old Ikea chair, check out Bemz.

Now I have had first hand experience with Bemz. Quite awhile back, I was looking to set up a reading corner in my bedroom and so was looking out for an armchair.

I looked around a bit, but not too seriously. As this was a space that I thought would only be used occasionally, I did not want to shell out a huge amount of money.
Nothing grabbed my eye and so it was put on the back burner for a while.

Then one day ‘The Fella’ come home and said that someone had left an armchair down in the communal basement with a sign saying ‘Free, please take!!’
The armchair was an Ikea Jennylund chair. Coverless and with a bit of a wobbly leg, but other than that in pretty good nick.
So we bought it home.

Here is the ‘Before shot’, as you can see, not in bad shape, just un-inspiring!!!

Ikea Chair Before

Here it is with its clothes on. I just went for plain white. It goes with anything and I am plaining new curtains in a green Ikat print (see cushion further down), so the white will add a good contrast to those.

Here is the corner a lit bit more dressed up. It can get really hot in the summer, but is a great spot in the cooler months as it gets sun all afternoon.

The rascal in the chair is Charlie.

Ikea Chair After 3

So if your chair or sofa needs a re-vamp, check Bemz out. They have a great selection of fabrics and it’s a lot more economical than buying a new piece, even if it is Ikea.

We would love to see some before and after shots!!!
